Glad Tidings Church Hilo Assembly of God Where we come from: The first AOG Missionaries Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fischer who arrived in 1919 began the initial work. In 1928 Sister Bernice Strickland arrived in Hawaii. At the age of 22 she began conducting services on the Big Island. In 1945 the very first Assembly of God church in the Islands was dedicated when Glad Tidings Church moved to its present location. Several pastors served over the years. Rev. Peter Funk built the first church and the present building was built under the supervision of Rev. Orville and Virginia Mathison, who served faithfully throughout 1972-1977. Rev. Henry Kahalehili and his wife June served faithfully for 26 years as pastors of Glad Tidings Church and helped to establish many other ministers in the process. Where we are Going: Senior Pastor Renee Godoy served from 1991 and was appointed Assoc. Pastor in 1993. She was elected Senior Pastor when Rev. Kahalehili went to be with the Lord in 2003. With a vision to see people connect with God through Christ and a heart for our Big Island community, we are honored with heritage and in passionate pursuit to fulfill God's purpose beyond where we have been. If you want to know God, and desire to have your purpose in life unfold before you, Glad Tidings Church may be the place for you. See our Ministries page to see what God is doing at GT and the direction He has called us to. |
